Jack and Troy from ZiaComics.com geek out about the new DC Comics title, Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps
Green Lanterns Oath
In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight.
Let those who worship evil’s might,
Beware my power, Green Lanterns light!!!
Green Lanterns act as galactic police officers whose job it is to serve and protect all life in their sector. Each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants them a variety of powers. The effectiveness of the ring is tied to the wearer’s willpower. A Green Lantern with strong willpower will best a weaker-willed Lantern in a duel. Anything which weakens the Green Lantern’s mind, such as a telepathic attack, may render his ring useless.
Hal Jordan is the most well-known Green Lantern. He was the first human ever inducted into the Green Lantern Corps. Hal Jordan’s name is mentioned in conversations about possibly being the greatest Green Lantern of all time. He is also a founding member of the Justice League of America.
Hal gets his ring
Hal received his ring after a dying alien named Abin Sur, member of the Green Lantern Corps, crash-landed his ship in the Californian desert. His power ring chose Hal Jordan for his ability to overcome great fear. The ring and its abilities were explained to him and he inherited the mantle of Green Lantern.
DC Comics Rebirth initiative has the Green Lantern Corps gone and/or missing. Hal Jordan is on a desperate mission to find/reassemble the Corps and reclaim his position as a Green Lantern. Meanwhile, Sinestro has brought Warworld to Sector Zero, the location of Oa, and established himself as the police force of the universe.
With Rebirth resetting all the timelines you will see the old favorites again like Guy Gardner, Kyle Rainer, John Stewart, and Kilowog while maintaining all the Lantern mythology and back stories.
