Talk Nerdy to Me Star Wars Force Awakens
This week we have a stand-in for Jack. Patrick and Troy discuss the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie.
**Warning… spoilers ahead**
The Force Awakens is the first film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy announced after Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm in October 2012. The Force Awakens is set 30 years after Return of the Jedi. It follows Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron’s search for Luke Skywalker and their fight alongside the Resistance, led by veterans of the Rebel Alliance, against Kylo Ren and the First Order, a successor group to the Galactic Empire.
There are plenty of celebrity cameos in Star Wars The Force Awakens. You probably didn’t notice many of them since the celebrities were mostly suited up as stormtroopers or were in constume as an alien. Some of the celebrities only lent their voice talent to the film. As with nearly every JJ Abrams movie, there is a Greg Grunberg sighting.
Many little easter eggs are hidden throughout the movie as well. You have to watch the corners and backgrounds of every scene or you might miss them. One particular moment caused all the Star Wars nerds to geek out. Maz Kanata’s tavern has too many flags and banners displayed for the human eye to comprehend all at once. There is a Hut family banner and many podracer banners. The flags that everyone is excited about is the Fett flag, the Mandalorian Mythosaur, and a modified 501st. Keep your eyes focused when Han, Rey, and Finn enter the tavern.
Another nice little nod to the earlier movies is the floating training droid Luke used on the Millenium Falcon. You’ll also get to see the hologram chess set again. Notice this time the beast that lost in New Hope gets his revenge.
